Swinging Saddam Update #2

Iraqi officials said today that militia members infiltrated Saddam's execution in order to stir up sectarian tension.

“Whoever leaked this video meant to harm national reconciliation and drive a wedge between Shi’ites and Sunnis,” said National Security Adviser Mowaffaq al-Rubaie.

“There was an infiltration at the execution chamber.”

Saddam's last moments were filled with taunting.

The fate of Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikriti, Saddam's half brother and a former intelligence chief, and Awad Hamed al-Bandar, the former chief justice of the Revolutionary Court still hang in the balance. Television stations reported that they would be hanged at dawn on Thursday, however Al Jazeera is reporting that they will wait until the end of the Eid al-Adha.

Sami Al-Askari, a senior aide to Nuri al-Maliki, said: "Most probably they will be executed next week after the holiday."

Currently under heavy criticism for Saddam's execution, Iraqi Prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, said today that he will not seek another term.

"I wish it could be done with even before the end of this term. I would like to serve my people from outside the circle of senior officials, maybe through the parliament or through working directly with the people," Mr Maliki told the Wall Street Journal.
